Aadhaar for Kids – Baal Aadhaar

The UIDAI has launched a drive to a new variant of Aadhaar card meant for kids known as Baal Aadhaar Card.

The Baal Aadhar is issued to kids who are aged below 5 years and there is no need for them to provide any biometric information while getting registered for Aadhaar. To differentiate between the Aadhar card meant for adults and kids, the UIDAI issues Baal Aadhar in blue color for kids who are aged below 5 years. Most of the government IDs are issued to citizens of India after attaining 18 years of age. But Aadhar is the only such document that even a newborn can enroll for.

At the time of the issue of Baal Aadhar, the UIDAI will not capture the biometric details of the child. The demographic details will be taken from the Aadhaar card of any one of the parents. Just similar to the Aadhaar which is meant for adults, the Baal Aadhar also has a 12 digit unique identification number and the same needs to be updated with biometric details of the child once they turn 5 years. A final set of biometric data will be collected when the child turns 15 years.

  • Most of the schools in India has made it a mandatory document to be submitted at the time of the admission process.
